The Camino project brings you a complete browser that is capable of handling just about anything you throw at it. Practicing the art of simplicity, Camino provides the features you would expect from a modern browser via a modern and uncluttered interface. The features added in this release are carefully thought out in order to ensure that our product is enhanced without endangering its ease-of-use.

World's Best Rendering Engine
The beating heart of Camino is its rendering engine, the component responsible for laying out the content of web sites. Camino uses the Gecko rendering engine, the same engine used in the popular Firefox web browser. Gecko renders web pages more accurately than any other rendering engine on the planet. Not only is it incredibly fast but it also supports the latest W3C web standards such as XML, XHTML, XSLT, DOM, CSS, and JavaScript. With Camino 1.0 we made a great effort to vastly improve the speed and reliability of plugins we support such as QuickTime, Flash, Shockwave, and Java.
Dedicated Integration
Camino perfectly integrates into your Mac OS X computing environment. The native Cocoa interface and the beautifully designed icons make Camino a very useful and elegant desktop citizen.
But our level of integration is not just skin deep. With Camino 1.0 we integrated functionality that uses System Services, System Preferences, Mac OS X Mail, Address Book, Keychain Services, Finder, the Dock, Bonjour, and Spotlight. Our commitment to the environment especially shows in our wide support of Mac OS X versions 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4 - all designed to create the seamless experience users come to expect from software running on Apple’s Mac OS X.
Annoyance Control
Camino puts an end to annoying pop-up windows and advertisements with its annoyance blocking technology. These two features alone make surfing the Web a much more enjoyable experience by preventing sites from opening windows and advertisements that get in between you and the information you’re looking for.
Most pop-ups are unwanted but some sites make legitimate use of them. To ensure that you can always fully access the site you’re visiting, Camino will display an icon in the status bar whenever a pop-up is blocked. If you want to allow the site to use pop-ups you can unblock the site or access Camino’s white-list by clicking the icon.
Search Tools
Searching has become a major part of the the modern Web browsing experience and Camino provides the tools you need to find what you’re looking for quickly. Now more then ever.
Camino has the ability to search the web right from within the toolbar using Google or a host of other search engines. Additionally, find-as-you-type allows the user to easily search the current webpage. If you’re looking to search your bookmarks or history, Camino also has a built-in search tool in the bookmark manager. Want to find a cookie information quickly, search is also integrated in our cookie manager. And, on Mac OS X 10.4, Spotlight is able to find your Camino bookmarks, so all of your information is just seconds away.
Privacy and Security Tools
Camino makes it easy for you to manage and remove information that has been stored while you’ve been surfing the web; things such as history, cookies, downloaded files, and cache. A Reset Camino option allows you to easily remove all stored information in an instance.
Using Camino’s privacy settings you can prevent cookies from being stored on your computer on a global or per-site basis; Camino gives you control over your privacy in a way that’s simple to understand and configure.
Camino also support the addition and management of certificates.
But for those who want to surf the web without worrying about setting up special privacy settings, Camino makes sure its standard settings don’t get in your way, putting you in complete control of your information.
Tabbed Browsing
Tabbed browsing offers an easier way to surf the Internet, allowing you to have multiple webpages open while only managing a single window. Each window can have an unlimited number of tabs, giving greater flexibility to your browsing. Tabs can be set to load the pages in the background or immediately become the front most page; the choice is yours.
For example: you’re reading the daily news and the article links to more data about the subject. Using a non-tabbed browser you could choose to open the link in a new window and then return to the article or wait until you finished the article and then go back and find the link. Using a tabbed browser you can send the link into a tab where it will load in the background and be ready for reading when you’re finished with your article. Once you’re accustomed to tabs anything else will just feel clumsy and cluttered.
Download Manager
Camino’s download manager is compact yet informative as well as user-friendly and feature-filled. It displays the status of all downloads as a graphical list along with information such as time until completion and download speed. It also includes many very useful tools to manage your downloads such as pausing and resuming downloads as well as retrying canceled or interupted downloads.
The download manager saves screen space by providing one window for all of your downloading needs.
Open Source
The Camino team is proud to say that our product is 100% open-source software. This revolutionary method of development allows a diverse group of people from around the world to work together on a product that is truly developed by and for the people.
With so many eyes reviewing Camino's code as well as that of the Gecko rendering engine, mistakes are caught quickly and the result is a more robust and secure product.
Because Camino lacks a corporate agenda, its developers are free to do what they feel is best for their users and the software community. This results in the dedication to open standards that is necessary in order for internet technology to move forward in directions that are beneficial to end-users.
